Beginning a new school year is all about fresh starts. (Even if school is a distant memory, we can all claim “back to school” as an excuse to make fresh choices.) Everyone’s getting new clothes, but new GLASSES can really make you feel reborn. Here’s to a clean slate and clear vision: four super-fresh eyeglasses, stacked like library books, from our favorite brands.
Kate Spade creates classy eyewear, but they still know how to have fun. Available in 4 pretty color choices, including classic black and ballet slipper pink, their Jaydee glasses are a perfect example of this. The blue is most unique, but a flirty cat-eye shape, and temples featuring a mottled, animal print (or translucent pastel) guarantee you will get noticed no matter what color you choose.
Ray-Ban eyeglasses are known for their statement-making, geek-chic styles. But don’t think there isn’t a more grown-up side of Ray-Ban. These RX6365’s are sophisticated, but you still get the trademark shark fin temples and an array of colors to choose from. Perfect for someone who has matured over the summer.
Pitchman R eyeglasses
These Oakley Pitchman eyeglasses are for that intellectual guy with a serious sporty streak. They’re a unique combination of high-tech materials and rugged detailing with an old-school shape (round lenses and keyhole bridge.) For some reason these remind me of when Ned Flanders takes his shirt off – and he’s ripped.
PR 27SV Eyeglasses
Here’s the easiest piece of advice to follow if you want to look too cool for school – just get a pair of Prada glasses. The two-tone colorways on the maroon and grey versions of the PR 27SV are particular appealing, as are the triangular metal rivets on the end points.
Jessica Alba’s success is well known, not just a beautiful actress but also the founder of a natural baby products start-up (the Honest Company) that’s valued at over a billion dollars. Jessica also has enviable style. You often read about celebrities appearing “effortless” in their fashion choices. But, if you’re like me, you’re suspicious that it took a team of stylists and many hours to achieve that carefree look. However, this breezy style on Jessica appears to be a genuine expression of her casual, almost androgynous side, (with the baggy t-shirt, blazer and sporty shades).
We love this look on Jessica because it reminds us that just because something is labeled for Men or Women doesn’t mean that’s how you have to wear it! These fun shades are a dead ringer for the Oakley Holbrook sunglasses in Matte Black with Emerald Mirrored Iridium lenses. The Holbrook’s are labeled for men, but they would look great with a big pair of hoop earrings like Jessica has creatively styled her sunglasses.
If you’re in the market for Jessica’s outfit, we tracked down similar pieces online to style the rest.

Holbrooks are some of the most popular Oakleys due to their classic silhouette and high performance lenses. They’re the epitome of what makes the Oakley brand cool, because they sit perfectly at the intersection of sporty and stylish.
In the fashion department, these Holbrooks provide a timeless square shape reminiscent of a Ray-Ban Wayfarer, plus they boast the unique keyhole bridge and double metal rivet detailing.
Oakley technology brings innovations like Plutonite® lenses (which filter 100% of all UVA, UVB, UVC and harmful blue light) and O-Matter™ frame material which is both lightweight and durable
The Oakley Holbrook is available in a huge range of colors to suit any taste, but the wild mirrors are pretty fun.
Looking through the latest sunglasses arrivals at FramesDirect.com for something fun and summery for you guys, these 4 pairs screamed “pick me” the loudest. It’s fun to go wild with details and materials; why stick to rhinestones, or rivets, or over-sized shapes when you can have all three.
Here are some of the most fun, out-there, statement-making designer sunglasses to come out this Summer of 2016.
First up, Kate Spade Karyna/S sunglasses, these just make me smile. The cat-eye shape and daisy detailing are such a fun throwback. I love the classic yellow and white daisies, but these are available in ALL pink as well!
If those Kate Spades aren’t Fashion (with a capital F) enough for you, these out-there  Gucci sunglasses are for a girl whose heart beats for bold Italian style. Now that Alessandro Michele (former head of accessories) is in charge, you can expect more and more of these wild choices. Oversized square frames and rhinestones add just the hint of humor needed to balance out that bold, distinctive Gucci branding.
Ok guys, I didn’t leave you out, this macho pair of Flecked Green Tortoise Lowdowns (from Smith) will give you all the visual technology and specialty materials you crave. But this color…it’s like glittery camouflage! These are a great way to do a unique take on the iridescent colored lens trend.
You’ve seen this style on the festival circuit, you’ve seen it in the street style snaps from outside the fashion shows – now invite this space age cat-eye to curl up in your collection! Don’t think you have to be a fashion blogger to fall in love with this Marc Jacobs pair. Surprisingly, they can be as sleek and stylish as you like – that’s an instant classic.

Known for their retro styled aviators, Carrera sunglasses are a favorite for both the hip and the sporty. Now Carrera has an exciting new product line and celeb collaboration which will get the followers of men’s fashion buzzing. Carrera has joined forces with the rebellious musician and method actor, Jared Leto. Leto is known for taking his art to the very edge, like losing a ton of weight in Requiem for a Dream (2000) and playing a transgender woman in Dallas Buyers Club (2013) – and winning an Oscar for it. Leto’s striking individualism made him the perfect model for Carrera’s new Maverick line of sunglasses, for the brave and fearless!
The Maverick mens glasses line is made from  0.7 mm laser cut stainless steel, making these the lightest shades ever to come from Carrera. The design is a reinvented classic, the silhouette features a reversed curved bridge from the Original Boeing Carrera Collection. So if you’re looking for revolutionary lightness and bold styling, check out Carrera’s newest…

We’ve known for a while that Persol is a really popular brand for male celebrities. You’ll often find George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, and Zac Efron pairing them with a dapper suit on the red carpet. But Persol’s are so classic and versatile, they can be worn dressed up or down. Jay Z, for example, never lets his fashion power couple status slide, even when he’s on a more casual vibe. If you want to know – what can I wear my Persol sunglasses with? The answer is – anything! We’re not sure what designers Jay-Z is wearing, but you don’t have to spend a lot of money to emulate his look. A grey t-shirt, distressed jean jacket, slim jogger-style chinos with cargo pockets, and some all white, old school Adidas is all you need. He looks comfortable but still pulled together. And the black Persol aviators elevate his outfit to reflect his star status.
Of course, you can pick up these Persol PO9649S Sunglasses at FramesDirect.com! They come in a large range of frame and lens color combinations to really personalize your look. Jay-Z chose classic black, but I’m partial to the Amber with the Polarized Blue lens, for a really unique style. The keyhole bridge is not only classy, but helps with fit  – meaning they will sit perfectly on your nose bridge. Persol glasses are still made in Italy with the finest, lightweight acetate; must be why they’re so popular with the discerning Hollywood crowd.

Each season, the Pantone Color Institute provides a palette inspired by art, society, and nature to reflect the current moment in our global culture. This Spring’s palette is strong yet soothing, and features colors that are uplifting while remaining grounded. The result is a calm and tranquil set of shades, that will help keep you cool as the temperature rises.
If you feel like your look could use a refresh but want to go a little bolder than a classic black or tortoise, here are three shades from the Spring Pantone palette that work really well for eyewear. First, Iced Coffee is a versatile color that will warm your skin tone and add interest without taking away from your features. Fiesta, a fun red tone, is for the more adventurous. But red glasses have come a long way since Sally Jesse Raphael! And we think you can almost consider Snorkel Blue a neutral, just think of it as a navy with a little added pizzazz.

From Tuesday, March 1st to Wednesday, March 9th, the Ready to Wear, Fall/Winter 2016 runway shows took place in Paris. Fashion week feels like it has become fashion year (since fashion weeks are cropping up in every major city, not to mention there are Men’s and Couture showings as well.) It can be hard to know when to perk up and take in the trends, but it doesn’t get more real-deal than the epicenter of fashion, Paris.
Among the the prestigious designers sending their creations down the catwalk were some of our favorites from FramesDirect.com! Lanvin gave a sumptuous showing with formal, feminine silhouettes and and endless layers of ruffles and sequins (that somehow still managed to look subdued.) Get the look with these Mad Max-meets-Miami sunglasses from Lanvin.
At Miu Miu, Miuccia Prada had everything coming up denim. Somewhere between the 1990’s and Victorian times there’s a paradise where everyone is wearing tapestry maxi skirts – this show was that paradise. To channel the patchwork princess in you, try these futuristic-ly vintage (only in fashion, haha) shades from Miu Miu.
Saint Laurent was not following as closely with the 70’s revival and went in a more goth direction, with lots of black, netting, and heavy eye make-up. Saint Laurent is the new version of YSL and, FramesDirect.com are really pumped to bring their latest eyewear collection to you. If you like the dark & mysterious look from the runway, try these:
And at Stella McCartney, she managed to mesh urban street style (the return of the puffa coat?) with lady-like pleats and patterns for an eclectic but wearable collection. You can get your own version of the tough but feminine look with these sunglasses from Stella:

A question we often hear at FramesDirect.com is “Where are Oakleys made?”
Before 2007, an identifying mark of genuine Oakleys was a “Made in USA” stamp etched on the inside of the temple. But when Oakley was acquired by Luxottica, some styles started being manufactured in other facilities around the world.
Oakley still strongly identifies as an American brand since their products are designed and engineered in California at their headquarters in Foothill Ranch, California (which is famous for its architecture.) But now many (genuine) Oakley products are manufactured in China.
